i haven’t been having as much fun online these days. and while the social media side of things has been the same as ever (that is to say bad, but i am the type of person who kind of likes to be angry so it is what it is), when it comes to the personal sites circuit i have been feeling a bit... put off.
i wrote an entry last year where i talked about my increasing frustration with the rise of transphobia in feminist spaces. as i have begun wanting to socialize more in this community, this frustration has been a tough thing to grapple with. off the bat i'll admit that this last entry regarding transphobia was conceptualized as a "rent-lowering gunshot" to further define myself and my site as a place unfriendly for terfs. and i stand by everything i said there in its entirety. those are all things that are true and that i wholeheartedly believe. but i only really put them to text and uploaded them specifically to signal that i hate transphobes and i don't want to accidentally become friendly with any.
the longer i exist in this sphere though i've come to realize that's not really something i have full control over. since i started this site almost four years ago, i've known that there's a vague group of transphobic women lurking around and i've done my best to not engage with anyone who might fit that profile but that's just kind of led me to not engaging with anyone much period. i send the occasional email out but i don't really leave guestbook comments anymore or even spend any time surfing the web at all. and that's not even what has really been bugging me lately. i'm a busy person, my interest in websurfing comes and goes. what has actually been on my mind is that i realized someone i have been friendly with has, at some point, begun walking down that terf path.
because it's like, what do i even do now. i don't want to be friendly with you anymore but i don't want to make a big deal out of it or really say anything either. and what do i do if this happens again in the future. or if it has already happened with others and i haven't picked up on it. it's that insidious covertness i mentioned in my recent miniblog post. you are all way too cowardly to deal with the repercussions of your beliefs and interact with the people you sneer at anyway. and this is a belief i really cannot agree to disagree about. i do not want to be friendly with someone who is so hateful in any respect. and more than that, if you are transphobic i do really think you are an extremely, extraordinarily stupid person. i do not respect you.
and it's frustrating because i don't want to get on here and worry about what every other person believes. i really don't care. i'm not out here looking to make call out posts or send hate mail. i just don't want to be following or getting friendly with someone and find out three years later that they have worms in their brain.
i don't know. this post was going to be another deep think with a bunch of thoughts and arguments i didn't include last time but now i'm just kind of like whats the point man. the people who get it get it and the ones who don't are too fucking brain dead and wrapped up in their own victimization that it doesn't even matter. more than anything i'm just tired of society having to treat this thought process seriously. it is such a dangerous distraction from any liberating motion that targets our actual greatest oppressor (patriarchy) and watching women fall for it again and again makes me want to bang my head against the wall.
anyway! that's all i got. i said in my miniblog i was considering a hiatus because i'm not really having fun anymore and that might be how things shake out for my own peace of mind. i'll probably still update the archival things like my media log and fanlists but i don't know about anything else. i started this site intending not much to come out of it and to stay solitary but i am a social person by nature so it's tough not to step out of that box. much to think about etc etc.
